What does Worship Arts look like at Parkdale?

What is Worship Arts

Here at Parkdale United Church we have a thriving arts community that has something for everyone. The various groups meet just after the Labour Day weekend and wrap-up at the end of June.

For us worship is the offering of all we are and have in joyful submission to God, and to what God says and does, thereby empowering the worshipper to impact the world for the glory of God.

Whether you’re a complete stranger to us, passing through or already one of us, we welcome your talents. We’re sure that one of the following groups will be just the right fit for you.

The Choir

Do you like to sing? Don’t worry if you can’t read music as we can help you with that. The Choir provides music leadership three Sunday mornings a month in order to enhance the worship life of the congregation; this takes the form of four-part anthems and occasional special choral presentations.

Rehearsals take place every Thursday evening beginning at 7:30 pm. Don’t worry if you can’t make every rehearsal.

DaleSong

Our name was inspired by HillSong and we like to explore all styles of contemporary music. Don't worry if you can't read music. We're an informal group and work collaboratively to bring new music to the congregation.

Join us on Thursday evening beginning at 8:00 pm. Be sure to call Melodee at 613-728-8656 ext. 226 before coming out. We don’t always rehearse each week.

Youth Singers

This is a new group that we are in the process of forming. Do you have an interest in singing or learning more about music? We want to connect you with other youth who share similar interests and want to learn more about the teachings of Jesus.

To learn more about how you can be a part of this group you can reach us in the following ways.

Perhaps you’ve always wanted to participate in the musical life at Parkdale but were not sure how you could contribute. You may even have felt that you didn’t have the time to devote. Don’t worry about that. We can help.

The Parkdale Orchestra

The Parkdale United Church Orchestra is Ottawa's longest established community symphony orchestra. The orchestra is made up of amateur musicians united by a desire to perform some of the western world’s greatest classical and contemporary music. We are blessed to have them join us for Sunday services at least twice a year.

Drama

The world is your stage and here’s your opportunity to share the teachings of Jesus in a creative way. We have a small drama group who present at least two skits a year as part of a Sunday worship service. Come out and give it a try. Maybe you don’t have an interest in acting but can help to build our sets. We’re a warm and welcoming group who have a lot of fun during rehearsals.

Faith Formation

Forming followers of Jesus in such a way as to transform our community and our world is the Vision Statement for Parkdale. Your spiritual wellbeing is important to us and as a Christian community we want to bring artists together to share the teaching of Jesus. A practical guide to help worship team members spiritually prepare for worship by providing practical advice with each chapter which addresses a key issue church artists face and gives slice-of-life scenarios, group discussion questions, applications questions, biblical perspective, and personal action steps.
